In May 1998 Mary Silkstone, Community Manager of Worsley Community Team (Social Services) set up the original steering group for the Home-Start Salford Scheme and fought hard to secure fundings. She saw the value of offering Home-Start families friendly support to many of the cases she dealt with and saw a real need in the community for its services, initially Home-Start areas were Little Hulton and Farnworth.
