Supporting families in Salford

Home-Start Salford are celebrating 10
years of supporting families in Salford!!!!!
On behalf of the Families, Trustees and Staff at Home-Start
Salford, we would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to all the people/organisations
who have continued to support Home-Start!!!! Also an ENORMOUS THANK YOU
to our volunteers, past and present for your commitment and generosity over the last 10 years!!!!!
The scheme started in May 1998 in Little Hulton. In December 2005, with the help of Big Lottery funding (for three
years), we were able to extend support to families throughout the City of Salford.
Now
that funding has come to an end we have secured some funding from Childrens Services, however this only allows
us to support families living in the West Locality of Salford. The areas we are currently serving are Little Hulton,
Walkden, Worsley, Ellenbrook and Boothstown. We are in the process of applying for further funding to enable our service
to be re-established City Wide and we would value your comments in support of our application. We welcome
comments from referrers, families and volunteers living in or outside the West Locality of Salford. Please include comments
on "the impact of Home-Start not having a city wide service in Salford"

Our support is free, confidential and non-judgemental.
In fact, almost 25% of families refer themselves to Home-Start - which speaks for itself. We help to increase the confidence
and independence of families by:
- Visiting
families in their own homes to offer support, friendship and practical assistance
- Reassuring parents that their childcare problems are not unusual or unique
- Encouraging parents' strengths and emotional well-being for the ultimate
benefit of their children
- Trying to get the fun back
into family life

Parents ask for Home-Start's help for all
sorts of reasons:
- They may
feel isolated in their community, have no family nearby and be struggling to make friends
- They may be finding it hard to cope because of their own or a child's physical
or mental illness
- They may have been hit hard by
the death of a loved one
- They may be really struggling
the with emotional and physical demands of having twins or triplets - perhaps born into an already large family

Our volunteers, who have parenting experience themselves,
can offer:
- Precious time for listening
and talking
- Help with the children
- A break for parents
- Practical help and reassurance
- A
chance to meet other parents in the same boat
- Support
to use local services and resources
